IOM 2-08 - cherry 125284 - 16   IOM 2-08 - cherry 125284 - 28

Our selection for February 08's 'Item of the Month' is based on SIZE!!

We are presenting a double set of spectacular cherry, totaling nearly 20 linear feet, 10/4 thick, in widths of 20" or greater and lengths hitting the 8 to 10 foot mark ........ all from the same cherry tree.  The quantity of color and grain matched in these sets could satisfy the demands of any special large projects.

This is only the beginning for oversized cuttings from us.

Keep your eyes open for 10/4, 12/4, 14/4, and even 16/4 bookmatched sets

appearing on our website in the upcoming months.

For the special BUTT log:

IOM 2-08 cherry 125284 - 4

IOM 2-08 cherry 125284 - 10-11

IOM 2-08 cherry 125284 - 4-5-6

The butt log in the double log set (125284) is a monster.  At first sight we expected to yield over 30” widths from this beast.  Unfortunately, we had to break away from our normal through-and-through cutting pattern and “lay this log down” to remove bad pith wood which we found hidden inside.  This ruined our chances at the 30”-ers, but we still managed to finesse a 25 and a half inch flitch, along with some great quartersawn and riftsawn material.

Although it did not turn out exactly as expected we are still happy with the log and proud to showcase it as part of February’s I.O.M. Check here for the "stats".

We stayed with our normal sawing pattern on the upper log and were rewarded with some great sequential pieces.  The widest pieces had to be split to remove that pesky pith, but we were left with four fantastic quartersawn flitches; not to mention some pretty massive slabs from the large log.
