This is something different on our HORIZON. The deep, rich figure of quilted Big Leaf Maple. We have just introduced it as a new section of our on line store. We decided to offer it here as the Item of the Month as our way of bringing this special species to your attention. We are excited about its potential. As we admire the character of these pieces, a thousand ways to describe the grain come to mind. In the photo above, we laid our cut-out stencil for painting packs on top of one of the blocks of the quilted wood. Instantly it takes on the life of a blazing fire behind our logo. Pretty neat stuff.
Often used for musical instruments such as guitars, this highly figured wood is offered in fairly uniformly sized blocks. The dimensions of these pieces varies somewhat, but they are roughly just shy of two feet in length, about 8 to 10 inches wide and 2 plus inches thick. All blocks are air dried for a minimum of 2 years before being offered for sale.
There are many applications for wood like this: accent pieces, drawer pulls, corner insets and on and on. What a great way to add life and highlights to a special project.
