Hard Maple Sets 215 and 216 |
We are featuring here over 700 bf of fascinating, wide, 8/4 Hard Maple - all cut from the same tree. This fine collection would lend itself nicely to an entire set of matching furniture, or numerous table tops, benches, bars, or whatever! Perfect wood for a natural, rustic look. It is loaded with knots and compression curls, standard fiddleback curl, ripples and ridges - to say nothing of the interesting color variations moving from tan to dark brown in the heartwood and the whiteness of the sapwood. An amazingly unique collection for the one-of-a-kind creation!!
Check out the photos below to get a good appreciation of the width and thickness of each piece. You can see the curly ridges in the edges of the flitch as well as on the surfaces. The figure in this wood is evident from all angles. Fascinating design!

The results of our photography are somewhat limited, but in order to provide a better look at the figure in this wood, the jacket boards have been surfaced to allow the curls and ripples to "pop" in the pictures. Log 215 is the second log and it has more of the knoted, crazy grain patterns. It also contains some splits and cracks which could be butterflied or used to accent the rustic look of the finished product. Log 216, being the butt of the tree, does not reflect the impact of as many branches. It contains fewer knots and the figure is more of the standard fiddleback. We have additional photos available.
