This is a monster of a find; one entire 40 foot tree with incredible, consistant curl!! The tree was so large that it yielded FIVE eight foot logs. This is a true rarity.
There are lots of mysteries in the world of nature, and one of them is the development of figure in a tree. Although there are several theories, there is no universally accepted explanation as to why it occurs or what causes the variation of figure that we find. Figure tends to be frustratingly inconsistent, often only occurring in random sections of a tree. One thing we know for sure is that it is difficult to predict from the outside. At Horizon, our years of practice have developed a certain “eye” for figure recognition, so it is more than merely an educated guess. No matter what, there is still some amount of luck involved. In this case, we got real lucky!! Beautiful, consistent figure that runs the entire length and diameter of an entire tree is a true gem. Sort of a once in a lifetime find.
This set of sets is an exception to all norms. It is 40' of continuous intense curl from the butt log all the way to the first crotch of the tree. This is an item which we do not mind having in our inventory….. it would truly be a shame to split up the sets and use for them for small projects. This tree deserves a special, large application where a significant amount of figure consistency and matching can be highlighted and set on display. We are excited to see what creative minds will invent for this great tree!
