Black Walnut Crotch!!
This group is a treasure for a few different reasons. It is extremely difficult to find crotches of this dimension that are solid all the way through. Usually, as a tree grows to these larger sizes, the crotches develop ingrown bark, or become severly split, which make the wood extremely difficult, if not impossible to use. This crotch has none of those problems.
A find like this is the kind that thrills our buyers!
The next challenge comes with the slicing. The crotch log shape is a beast to cut. It requires special handling and turning to position properly. A special part of the magic is finding just the right flitch line upon which to open the crotch. Sitting in the sawyer's booth and watching the crotch slice open to reveal such spectacular
beauty is an experience most wood lover's can only dream of.
